BRYSSEL 1 oktober 2014 | Detta gör din EuropaparlamentarikerModeraternas Gunnar Hökmark har fått i uppdrag att leda EU-parlamentets arbete med att strukturera Europas banker och vill samtidigt minska onödigt regelkrångel från Bryssel.
Under hösten kommer Europaportalen att intervjua de svenska Europaparlamentarikerna för att se vilka frågor de jobbar med. Moderaten Gunnar Hökmark fortsätter som tidigare i parlamentet att jobba med frågor kring krisbanker. Nu har han fått i uppdrag att lotsa frågan om hur banker ska struktureras för att bättre stå emot framtida kriser.
– Det viktigaste är att se till att europeiska banker kan låna ut och stötta investeringar i företag och näringsliv, säger Gunnar Hökmark som tillägger att det även viktig att fokusera på de eventuella risker som finns kvar i medlemsländernas banksystem efter det stora lagpaket för banker som blev klart under den förra mandatperioden kommit på plats.
Frågan handlar även om hur banker ska dela upp sina verksamheter mellan en mer riskfylld del som investment och en mer traditionell del för in- och utlåning av pengar.
Gunnar Hökmark arbetar sedan förra mandatperioden även med telekomfrågor där EU-parlamentet enats om en ståndpunkt.
– Det är olika frågor som syftar till att göra det lättare för operatörer att verka över olika gränser [och] att ta bort olika hinder för att bygga upp sammanhängande nät över Europa.
En annan viktig fråga för Hökmark är att mejsla ut hur den nya kommissionärsposten för ”bättre reglering”, som Hökmark arbetade för att få på plats, ska fungera.
– Jag vill se till att det inte bara blir till namnet utan även till gagnet. Att man ser till att ha organiserade processer för att minska onödig regelbörda, säger han och tillägger att en arbetsgrupp inom hans konservativa och kristdemokratiska partigrupp EPP håller på att sättas upp.
– Sen gäller det ju att se till att arbetet i parlamentet bejakar denna förändring och möjlighet.
Gunnar Hökmark nämner också sitt engagemang för två stora frågor: dels det stora frihandelsavtalet mellan EU och USA ska komma på plats.
– Det är en jättestor sak som kan förena världens två viktigaste ekonomier och demokratier, säger han och pekar även på utvecklingen i Ryssland.
– EU måste vara starkt mot den aggression som vi nu ser Putin rikta mot andra länder på olika sätt i form av hot och provokationer. Det allra viktigaste är att EU:s sanktioner fullföljs. Sen måste man också vara beredd att öka trycket ytterligare. Där är det allra viktigaste att se till att unionens alla medlemsstater agerar gemensamt och att man inte låter kortsiktiga egna intressen går för det som är långsiktigt och gemensamt, säger Gunnar Hökmark.
