EU-kommissionär föreslår mindre generösa välfärdssystem

Men justitiekommissionär Viviane Reding uppmanar landet istället att göra sitt välfärdssystem mindre generöst för att inte locka till sig bedragare.
Den brittiska inrikesministern Theresa May begär att EU-reglerna för fri rörlighet skrivs om för att minska risken för ”välfärdsturism”. Det framförde hon när EU-ländernas justitie- och inrikesministrar träffades i Bryssel på torsdagen.
– Vi måste ändra på hur den fria rörligheten fungerar i EU. Framför allt för nya länder. Vi måste kunna begränsa full tillgång till fri rörlighet tills vi kan vara säkra på att massmigration inte kommer ske, sade Theresa May och menade att detta kan göras genom att sätta krav på nya länder om en viss ekonomisk levnadsstandard innan dess medborgare får rätt att fritt röra sig inom unionen.
Hon vill även att EU-länderna ska kunna sätta ett tak på hur många personer som får komma från andra medlemsländer för att arbeta.
Men EU:s justitiekommissionär Viviane Reding menar att EU:s fria rörlighet inte är förhandlingsbar. Istället gick hon till attack mot det brittiska välfärdssystemet.
– Det verkar som att vissa nationella system är alltför generösa. Skyll inte på kommissionen eller EU-regler för nationella val och nationella regelsystem, sade Viviane Reding, rapporterar Financial Times.
Hon pekade på att det redan finns åtgärder medlemsländerna kan vidta för att begränsa ”välfärdsturism”.
– Om medlemsländerna vill begränsa tillgången till sociala förmåner för EU-medborgare kan de göra två saker. För det först, ändra sina nationella system för att göra dem mindre generösa. För det andra, använda existerande EU-regler som tillhandahåller skydd mot missbruk, sade Viviane Reding.
Vid årsskiftet försvinner de sista restriktionerna för rumäner och bulgarer att arbeta och verka i åtta EU-länder. Tillsammans med Nederländerna, Österrike och Tyskland har Storbritannien tidigare uppmanat kommissionen att se över regelverket för den fria rörligheten.
Men kommissionen menar att det inte finns några bevis för att ländernas sociala trygghetssystem utnyttjas och har kallat de brittiska kraven för ”skrämselpropaganda”.
