Den sociala medieplattformen Tiktok kan för tredje gången komma att dömas till miljardböter av EU. Denna gång för att deras app anses vara alltför skadlig för barn.
– Tiktok har inte utrett hur sina beroendeframkallande funktioner skadar användarna, och de har inte vidtagit åtgärder för att minska riskerna, sade EU-kommissionens talesperson på fredagen.
Tiktok bryter mot EU:s skyddsregler DSA då appen är för beroendeframkallande, enligt EU-kommissionens preliminära utredningsresultat. EU-kommissionen ställer sig särskilt kritiska till att videoflödet aldrig tar slut, pushnotiser, automatisk videouppspelning och personanpassade videorekommendationer till användarna.
– Dessa funktioner leder till tvångsmässig användning av appen, i synnerhet för barn, och utgör en risk för deras psykiska hälsa, sade EU-kommissionens talesperson Thomas Regnier på fredagen.
Tiktoks nuvarande åtgärder för att minska ungas skärmberoende anses inte vara tillräckliga, och EU-kommissionen överväger att Tiktok bland annat måste införa bättre skärmtidspauser, i synnerhet på natten, samt ta bort det oändliga videoflödet. Utredningen mot Tiktok inleddes i februari 2024 och det pågår liknande utredningar mot Meta, som äger Instagram och Facebook, och X enligt en EU-källa.
– Tiktok har inte utrett hur sina beroendeframkallande funktioner skadar användarna, och de har inte vidtagit åtgärder för att minska riskerna, sade EU-kommissionens talesperson.
Tiktok får nu en möjlighet svara EU-kommissionen innan de går vidare i processen. I slutändan riskerar Tiktok dömas till böter upp till sex procent av företagets globala årliga omsättning. Företaget har tidigare dömts till miljardböter två gånger 2025 och 2023 för att ha brutit mot EU:s datalagar om skydd av personuppgifter.
